preparation for the Major Extended Project

Still working on this image. It seems nice to mix vector shapes with detailed pencil strokes.

Brave New World Project

The following images which include one binding design and three book illustrations are created for the Folio Society Competition. The chosen book this year is Brave New World by Aldous Huxley.

The binding design-----"The optimum population...is modelled on the iceberg-eight-ninths below the water line,one-ninth above."

Illustration 1 for Chapter V :"He heard nothing, nobody was coming...when the others began to jig and stamp and shuffle, he also jigged and shuggled."

Illustration 2 for Chapter XI: "Looking down through the window...the savage could see Lenina's upturned face, pale in the bluish light ...the mouth was open.."

Illustration 3 for Chapter XVIII: "He had almost finished whittling the stave into shape, when he realized with a start that he was singing..."

After this project, I will move to my graduation project---creating a series of fantasy illustration of my own story. Need to work harder.

I have to rethink the colour and the layout of the cover design.

Besides, make the drawings a little bit simple.

A city boy likes to spend hours on the rooftop to play with his frog.  He has fun, but sometimes, he feel bored, bored and bored. He begin to expect something more exciting to happen. Until one day, three odd women turned up and called themselves the rooftop travelers. They only travel on the rooftop and like to show children uncanny and miracle things.
From this project, I learned sometimes illustrators should know when to stop, never fill up the whole paper, just leave some space for the audiences to breath. I think I will try to simplify these following images and make them look better!!!

 the three ladies are doing meditation, but the boy is too young to 

understand, he just enjoys playing with himself and his frog

 In meditation, the rooftop travelers leave the rooftop and floating

in a whole new world, the frog somehow managed to follow.

I did a wood engraving workshop today and quite enjoyed it. Definitely will do more in the future.

The design for the gift box of the five books.

It was a great joy to read the masterpiece from Alain de Botton, and I found more enjoyable moments in showing the ideas with my own visual language.

Scene design for animation "The Choice"

Inspired by the works by Paul Noble and Louise Bourgeois, I intend to create abstract and dreamlike scene for my new animation "The Choice".  I used Corel Painter and Adobe Illustrator to draw the final image.
